Field Instructor

The Silicon Valley Children’s Fund is recruiting two part-time Field Instructors to provide supervision to BASW and MSW student interns working in the Emerging Scholars program.  Our interns support high school aged foster youth by providing education focused case management and coaching services.  The goals of the program are to ensure an on-time high school completion and the development of a post-secondary plan.

The Field Instructors will work on Tuesdays and Thursdays from August 2017 through May 2018.  Work days are not negotiable. 

Qualifications

  • MSW required (minimum of two years post-graduation); LCSW preferred
  • Knowledge of the foster care system and experience working with foster youth required
  • Experience supervising interns strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of school systems (particularly high school and special education) strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with the graduate social work programs at San Jose State University and California State University East Bay preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide field instruction for BASW and MSW interns placed in the Emerging Scholars program, in accordance with the requirements of their respective universities, to include regularly scheduled weekly, face-to-face individual supervision
  • Be present on site at DFCS during internship days to provide punctual support and supervision as needed to BASW and MSW interns
  • Ensure successful youth/intern relationships, including the thoughtful initiation and termination of these relationships
  • Respond by the end of the work day to phone calls, or within 24 hours to emails, for urgent requests received from interns.  Non-urgent matters can be addressed at regular weekly meetings
  • Contribute to the ongoing training of all interns
  • Work closely with SVCF staff on day-to-day coordination of the Emerging Scholars program
  • Read and co-sign all case notes
  • Monitor intern task completion
  • Meet all the requirements of participating universities
  • Attend program events

SVCF General Operations

  • Be familiar with, abide by and uphold SVCF’s mission, vision, values, and core practice model (training offered)
  • Report/Check in weekly with direct supervisor
  • Attend all agency-wide meetings
  • Promote goals and objectives of SVCF
  • Report in accordance with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting law
  • Other duties as assigned
